How Should the NBA All-Star Rosters Really Look?

On Thursday, the NBA announced the league’s All-Star selections. However, between fans voting for the starters and the biases of head coaches (who pick the reserves), the rosters are never quite right.

NaismithLives.com lets you know who should really be representing the East and the West...

EASTERN CONFERENCE

Starters
PG - Rajon Rondo (Boston Celtics)
He’s quite simply been Boston’s best player during the first half of the season.
SG - Dwyane Wade (Miami Heat)
Other than Kobe and LeBron, there isn’t a dominant force who impacts the game more.
SF - LeBron James (Cleveland Cavaliers)
The league’s MVP up to this point.
PF - Chris Bosh (Toronto Raptors)
Toronto has struggled, but Bosh has been exceptional and consistent.
C - Dwight Howard (Orlando Magic)
Should get more involved offensively, but he is unrivaled on the glass and on the defensive end.

Reserves*
PG/SG - Gilbert Arenas (Washington Wizards)
A PR nightmare, but his on-court play prior to the suspension is still worth recognizing in a conference lacking quality guards.
SG - Joe Johnson (Atlanta Hawks)
The best player on one of the NBA’s elite teams.
SF - Paul Pierce (Boston Celtics)
Consistent and unrelenting, “The Truth” takes – and usually makes – all of Boston’s big shots.
SF/PF - Josh Smith (Atlanta Hawks)
The ultimate jack-of-all-trades, Smith is finally figuring out how to maximize his immense talent.
SF/PF - Gerald Wallace (Charlotte Bobcats)
Wallace is having a phenomenal season, highlighted by his standing among the league leaders in rebounds.
PF - David Lee (New York Knicks)
One of the league’s biggest surprises, Lee has become a star in the Big Apple.
PF/C – Joakim Noah (Chicago Bulls)
His aggressiveness and enthusiasm don’t show up in box scores, but has helped the Bulls stay afloat.

Just missed the cut*
PG - Brandon Jennings (Milwaukee Bucks)
One of the best point guards in the East, Jennings has cooled down after a torrid start.
PG/SG - Jamal Crawford (Atlanta Hawks)
The league’s best bench player, Crawford is having a tremendous season.
PF - Antawn Jamison (Washington Wizards)
Despite the chaos in Washington, Jamison has been a major bright spot for the Wizards.
PF/C - Al Horford (Atlanta Hawks)
He’s often playing out of position at center, yet Horford has been steady.
C -Brook Lopez (New Jersey Nets)
The fact that Lopez has been so good on a team that’s so bad is really pretty incredible.

WESTERN CONFERENCE

Starters
PG - Steve Nash (Phoenix Suns)
His resurgence has been nothing short of remarkable.
SG - Kobe Bryant (Los Angeles Lakers)
He’s played through pain and become a special leader for the best team in basketball.
SF - Carmelo Anthony (Denver Nuggets)
An MVP-caliber season for one of the most offensively gifted players in the world.
PF - Dirk Nowitzki (Dallas Mavericks)
A darkhorse MVP candidate, Nowitzki has virtually been winning games singlehandedly.
C - Amar’e Stoudemire (Phoenix Suns)
He’s a non-traditional center, but Stoudemire’s been very key to the success of the Suns.

Reserves*
PG - Chris Paul (New Orleans Hornets)
He’s done everything that’s been asked of him and much, much more.
PG - Deron Williams (Utah Jazz)
Certainly deserving of his first All-Star selection.
SG - Brandon Roy (Portland Trail Blazers)
Just halfway through his fourth season, but Roy has reached superstar status.
SG - Monta Ellis (Golden State Warriors)
The Warriors are atrocious, yet Ellis dominates on a nightly basis.
SF - Kevin Durant (Oklahoma City Thunder)
This will probably be the last season in his career that Durant isn’t starting in the All-Star game.
PF - Zach Randolph (Memphis Grizzlies)
Finally in shape physically and mentally, Randolph has been one of the league’s best forwards.
PF/C - Tim Duncan (San Antonio Spurs)
He’ll be 34 in April, yet Duncan is still as good as there is at the power forward spot.

Just missed the cut*
PG – Tyreke Evans (Sacramento Kings)
His assists, rebounds, and field goal percentage are similar to Kobe’s and he could be an All-Star by next season.
PF - Carlos Boozer (Utah Jazz)
Really having a solid season, but just too many good bigs in the Western Conference.
PF - Pau Gasol (Los Angeles Lakers)
Would’ve been in an automatic selection, yet he’s missed too many games.
C - Chris Kaman (Los Angeles Clippers)
Another outstanding big man who is hurt by the competition in the conference.
